Halpern Enterprises announces the completion of a community mural project at North Griffin Square in Griffin, Georgia. Painted by artist Shannon Lake, the mural depicts the city’s history and is designed as a welcoming beacon on the north side of Griffin.
“Public art has always been a great way to create a sense of place, and we believe this mural will create a more inviting, memorable community space for people to gather, reflect, and enjoy,” said Halpern President Matthew Oppenheimer.
The Griffin + Spalding Chamber of Commerce hosted a community ribbon cutting on June 10, 2025. Speakers included Halpern Chairman and CEO Jack Halpern, Griffin Mayor Douglas Hollberg, former Spalding County Commissioner Dick Morrow, Chamber Ambassador Melissa Todd, General Griffin Dr. Randy Peters, and Janie Clark, Chamber Board Chair and Community Outreach for Brightmoor Hospice.

“We’ve had the privilege of doing business in the City of Griffin for nearly 50 years, and it’s a community that means a great deal to all of us at Halpern Enterprises,” said Oppenheimer. “We’re proud of this collaboration, and we look forward to many more years doing business in the city.”
A Griffin resident for many years, Lake has always wanted to produce a historical mural in the community. The mural’s features include an iris, the city flower, the intriguing Doc Holliday, who was born in Griffin, the dynamic football rivalry between the Griffin Bears and Spalding Jaguars and the region’s growth spurred by the railroad depicted by the Nancy Hanks train.
The mural is painted on the side of Bealls, facing W McIntosh Road/Hwy 92 at 1617 N Expy, Griffin, GA 30223.
