Halpern shopping center Ogden Market Place won the Placemaking Award at the Cape Fear chapter of Commercial Real Estate Women’s inaugural Awards of Excellence held February 28, 2019.
Completed in 2017, Ogden Market Place is a 72,782-square-foot, Publix-anchored retail center developed, leased and managed by Halpern Enterprises. During development, Halpern faced the challenge of preserving more than 40 live oak trees, most notably, a 200-year-old oak that was blocking the path of construction for Publix. The company partnered with Wilmington’s mayor, city council and Connolly Tree Preservation to preserve as many trees as possible and relocate the “Ogden Oak” to another part of the property.
“We’re thrilled to have Ogden Market Place recognized by CREW,” said Halpern’s Executive Vice President Carolyn Oppenheimer. “Preserving trees at the property helps preserve history, while maintaining Wilmington’s tree canopy. The preservation represents our investment in the community and commitment to being good neighbors.”
Recognizing commercial real estate excellence and leadership in the Cape Fear region, the Awards of Excellence categories included Economic & Community Enhancement, Best Interior, Creative Marketing and Career Advancement for Women.
